Happy Thanksgiving Day
There are so many things to give thanks for in Canada.
Thanksgiving is the second Monday of October

Thankful

Blessings from above
That I am in love
Children at my feet
A warm and comfy seat
A place to lie my head
Enough daily bread
Somewhere to speak my mind
A people who are kind
These are the things;
I am thankful for,
Really, would you ask;
for anything more?

In Europe, the farmers held celebrations for a bountiful harvest.
For their good fortune and abundance of food,
the workers would fill a curved goat's horn with fruits and grains,
symbolizing the horn of plenty or cornucopia.
This tradition was brought when they came to Canada.
In 1578, Martin Frobisher held a formal ceremony,
giving thanks for surviving his long journey from England.
This continued when others followed to settle in Canada.
At the same time, French settlers held huge feasts of thanks
and shared their food with their Indian neighbours.
Thanksgiving in Canada is celebrating a bountiful harvest,
as a traditional celebration every autumn.
Giving thanks is celebrated with family and friends
with turkey and pumpkin pie.
A time to be thankful for all your blessings.
